Readers of The State Newspaper have awarded the Best New Restaurant accolade to downtown Lexington’s Irish pub, O’Hara’s Public House. Haven’t tried this place yet? Let me give you 5 reasons you should plan on it, even if you have to drive across town… it’s WELL worth it.
Reason #1 :: The Place. You feel like you’ve walked into a tavern in Dublin. Such care was taken to recreate the experience of visiting an Irish neighborhood pub. You’ll love the feel of this place :: cozy, charming, friendly, cheerful.
Reason #2 :: The Food. Warm the cockles of your heart with a bowl of Corned Beef and Cabbage Soup. Try the Loaded Colcannon as a light meal – smashed new potatoes with bacon, scallions, cabbage and cheese. Traditional Irish entrees include Guinness Beef Stew, Bangers and Mash, Shepherd’s Pie, Fish and Chips… or choose from their Comfort Foods menu which features Bacon and Smoked Cheddar Mac’ and Cheese, Beef Stew and Queen City 5-Way Chili (if you’ve ever been to Cincinnati, you know about that one). Burgers, steaks and sandwiches are prepared to one’s liking by a kitchen staff that knows its way around a grill. Menu is here.
Reason #3 :: The Bar. Like to hang out and meet nice people? Belly up to this bar and you’re in for some good conversation, many laughs, sports on TVs, and a fantastic selection of BEER. On tap, at last count, over 30 brews are served, including locally crafted lagers and ales from Columbia Craft Brewing Company and River Rat Brewery. Of course, you can choose from a wide selection of Irish beers, and craft beers from around the South and beyond. It’s a full bar, so choose your favorite cocktail or wine from the bartender whose job is to make everyone happy and feelin’ good.
Reason #4 :: The Music. Live music is offered regularly (check their Facebook postings for upcoming events here) with local favorites like balladeer Brandon Mullis, or come for one of their 2 hour traditional Irish Music Sessions (there’s one coming up!)
Reason #5 :: Totally Local. Matt O’Hara, co-owner, and his business partners are here. In the Columbia area. This is not a franchise. This is not one of 100 locations. This is the real deal. Let’s give them some of our eatin’ out money and help them succeed!
Congratulations, everyone at O’Hara’s Public House, for winning the Best New Restaurant title!
