A unique concept, Lexington’s new Nooch & Lalo bills itself as a Mix-Mex fusion restaurant, and their menu reflects just that. Mama’s Meatloaf comes with chipotle ketchup and jalapeno mashed potatoes; their Pork Pot Roast Chimichanga is just as you imagine it would be – Mexican-spiced pork roast rolled up in a tortilla and fried crisp and sandwiches like Torte Chente Dip (their version of a French dip, made with slow cooked pork carnitas, served on a crusty roll with cilantro lime slaw and a side of pork au jus for dipping.) This is a creative menu, and reviews on Yelp have been positive (5 out of 5 stars with 18 reviews). Located in Lexington in the Flight Deck Plaza at 109 Old Chapin Road. Open for lunch and dinner six days (closed Mondays); Sunday brunch from 10am. Visit their website here.
This place is located on the first floor of The Meridian Building at 1320 Main St. in downtown Columbia, in the space that used to house Zoe’s Kitchen. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Saturday brunch. Their offerings sound exceptional… I’d like to wake up with one of their main breakfast dishes like Shakshuka (eggs, harissa (smoky-spicy condiment), tomato sauce, roasted peppers, feta and grilled naan (flatbread)) or Huevos Rancheros (egg, chorizo, black beans, smoked tomato salsa, cotija cheese and cilantro crema). For lunch, an adventurous choice might be the Garlic Pepper Pork Bahn Mi (pork loin sandwich with pickled daikon and carrot, cilantro, sriracha aioli, maggi sauce on a baguette) which comes with a side – try the barley + feta or the truffle frites. For dinner, options are definitely high-end Main Street with a $48 CAB Prime Deckle of Ribeye (rib + cap section of the ribeye) or $28 Pan Seared Scallops. In fairness, the menu also has $15 burger plate and a $14 Cobb Salad). Saturday Brunch sounds awesome (they had me at Lemon-Ricotta Fritters with blueberry-lavendar- jam for $6). Bubba’s Biscuits opened in October 2019, and, based on reviews on Yelp (4 out of 5 stars with 30 reviews) and on Google (4.8 out of 5 stars with 48 reviews). I haven’t made it to Bubba’s yet, but it’s located at 612 Whaley Street (where White Duck Taco was), it’s really good. I can’t find a menu online, but the pics on their website look amazing… especially the shrimp and grits. They are open for breakfast and lunch all days but Monday, when they are closed.
