Lexington’s Old Mill Brewpub

Don’t you love a restaurant with history and atmosphere – exposed brick, wooden floors, tall windows, stained glass… stuff that transports you from your daily fight with traffic and Walmart and work? Where the place itself relaxes you, not just the alcoholic beverages being served (although they do help). Old Mill Brewpub is located inside Lexington’s old cotton mill, which was built in 1892 or so. From the exterior alone, you know you’re in a place with loads of history. I have loved Old Mill Brewpub since it opened its doors in 2013.

John and Kelly Clinger have worked very hard to keep their dream alive of running their own neighborhood restaurant and bar… someplace that turns its guests into friends, that feeds the hungry, puts a refreshing beer or cocktail in front of tired folk and offers a place to come when you just need to see a smiling face. That’s Old Mill Brewpub. Despite the unfortunate collapse of the dam that once held back a beautiful millpond off their deck, the team has kept its chin up and is now looking forward to the dam being rebuilt in 2019, the water flowing back in and the town of Lexington putting a walking path around the pond!

They brew their own beer in small batches in their onsite brewery (you can view it through the glass in the dining room), with brewmaster Matt using hops grown on his own South Carolina farm, as well as interesting ingredients that truly make their beer one-of-a-kind, seasonal and totally local. They also offer a number of other breweries’ crafts on draft.

Their chef, Jennifer Sturgis, is absolutely tops. She crafts a menu that gives everyone in your party something to love. From pub-style appetizers like Fried Green Tomatoes, Brewpub Wings and Paul’s Poutine Fries to eight different amazing burgers (their signature burger is topped with cheddar and swiss, fried onion rings and a fried egg – above) to entrees including Shrimp & Grits (below) and a selection of hand cut steaks… all prepared with skill and fresh ingredients. On March 26, 2019, I checked Tripadvisor, and Old Mill Brewpub is ranked #5 out of 106 restaurants in Lexington, SC, based on 308 reviews.

Enjoy a little fun with your food? Come in on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings for Shag Night (Tues), Bingo (Wedne) or Trivia (Thurs). The action begins at 7pm!

They also have an awesome catering menu that includes dips, spreads and flatbreads; sliders and finger sandwiches; hot and cold items and entrees; breads and desserts. They’ll set up food stations too. Call Kelly Clinger at 803-785-2337 or email her at kelly@oldmillbrewpub.net.
