There’s a new barbeque joint in town, folks, and it’s got what it takes to compete for the South Carolina barbeque lover’s business! Introducing Willie Jewell’s Old School Bar-B-Q, a fresh taste from Jacksonville, Florida. Barbeque enthusiasts who have traveled to Florida may have eaten at a Willie Jewell’s as there are a number of locations in the Sunshine State.
What is there to love?
They smoke their ‘Q onsite, over an oak fire. It has a deep, smokey, sensuous vibe that comes through no matter what sauce you add (and you have to add it yourself… it’s served with no sauce). I personally LOVE their sliced smoked turkey. It practically melts in your mouth, and smoked turkey beats roasted turkey hands down. Their pulled pork is to-die-for as well… definitely 100-mile ‘Q. (As in “I’d drive 100 miles to eat this ‘Q”) And they serve a beef brisket that is super tender and delicious. The ribs are awesome! A picture’s worth 1000 words:
The local owner is an amazing hands-on guy who is truly dedicated to his restaurant and his new community. From Louisiana, another very hospitable Southern state, Jeff understands the importance of doing things the right way to make customers happy and coming back. Not even open for more than a couple months, Jeff has given his time, energy and money to helping the community.
Hungry? Willie Jewell’s sandwiches will blow you away! They have some amazing combinations. Again, the pictures tell the story:
Feeding a big crowd? Tailgating? Holiday party? Catering is Willie Jewell’s Old School Bar-B-Q’s middle name. Well, maybe not.. the name is already a mouthful. The restaurant has a great catering menu, which is just a click away. CLICK.
And the place is also very nice to eat in… for lunch or dinner (open from 11am – 9pm everyday). They serve lots of Southern sides to complement your sandwich or platter, and they offer 4 different BBQ sauces at a pump station inside the restaurant. They also serve beer along with tea and soda.
I have gotten take-out from Willie Jewell’s three times since they opened. It is definitely not hard to convince my family that we should get dinner from WJ’s tonight, or any night! I buy the Q by the pound, and we have it as an entree the first night. Then I make a pizza a few nights later and put the leftover Q on top! It’s super yummy!
